Capacity plans

During 2005, local commissioners and stakeholders developed Capacity Plans for personality disorder services. In autumn 2004, Regional Secure Psychiatric Services Commissioners (Catchment Groups), and Personality Disorder Leads of the National Institute for Mental Health in England were asked to work collaboratively to produce regional plans for the development of personality disorder services.

The intention was that such plans would facilitate and support development of appropriate services at both national and local levels.

Plans cover

  • A mapping of current services for people with personality disorder in the local area
  • A description of patterns of need and demand for services in the area and the range of services needed
  • A description of pathways through services and how services are coordinated
  • An assessment of the capacity of current services
  • Medium term and longer term development targets in the light of the assessment of capacity.

All plans were analysed to provide a national picture of service provision, capacity, development proposals and areas for further action.
