RSS
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication it is a method for sharing new information that is added to a website.
An RSS feed is a file that updates automatically when a website changes. It works differently from email notifications because you can check them as often or a little as you like.
Using RSS feeds on your site
RSS feeds can be used by organisations or individuals.
Organisations and groups are welcome to use our RSS feeds on their websites or intranets, providing they attribute South West Development Centre.
Using RSS feeds as an individual
You can get RSS feeds delivered straight to your computer by using an RSS reader. This software checks the feeds that you decide to subscribe to and lets you read new information that has been added.
There are different kinds of news readers, some accessed with a browser and some which have to be downloaded and installed onto your computer. Browser-based news readers let you pick up your feeds from any computer that you have access to (library, internet cafe etc) while downloadable readers let you store them on your own computer (work, home etc).
Subscribing to an RSS feed differs from one reader to another, but it generally involves copying the URL of the RSS feed from the address bar on your browser and pasting it into the reader.
