National PD Programme – past, present and future
The Government’s National Personality Disorder Programme – past, present and future – is the subject of a plenary session at this year’s BIGSPD (British and Irish Group for the Study of Personality Disorder) on Friday March 25 at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. Speaking are Nick Benefield, Rex Haigh, Nick Joseph, Kath Lovell and Lisa Wilson.
The conference, which runs for three days from March 23-25, will see international keynote speakers, including Professor Joel Paris (McGill University, Montreal); Professor Kate Davidson (University of Glasgow) and Dr Hanna Pickard (All Souls College, Oxford).
Special Guest, Jo Brand, will be attending the conference on the last night. As well as bringing comic, light hearted entertainment to the conference, Jo will draw on her experience of being a psychiatric nurse. Most notably, before becoming a stand-up-comedian, Jo worked for the Maudsley Hospital in South London and since has contributed greatly to challenging stigma and discrimination in mental health.

how does one apply for the PD training programme? is it suitable for BPD and do i need a Psych or GP referral?
I have passed your query on and will post an answer here shortly. Ann Grain (website editor)
If you are somebody who’s interested because you think you fit the criteria for PD yourself, or are a carer for somebody who does or probably does, then you’d be best to talk to somebody at ‘Emergence’ – and they can either arrange it for you or put you in touch with people in your area. Look at their website http://www.emergenceplus.org.uk or contact their office admin@emergenceplus.org.uk
If you’re somebody who comes across these problems at work, then you can find out about courses in your area from the Institute of Mental Health (which is the organisation that coordinates several government-sponsored courses about PD -laura.chapman@nottshc.nhs.uk.
Hope that helps.
