New research requires your input – are you able to help?
Are you interested in taking part in a study looking at the experience of recovery for people with borderline personality disorder?
Victoria Green, a student in the last year of clinical psychology training at Leeds Institute of Health Sciences (Faculty of Medicine and Health/Leeds University), is undertaking a thesis on the subject and she needs your help.
You will be required to take part in a semi-structured interview that requires you to reflect on your experiences of having BPD, lasting approximately 60-90 minutes, and to fill in a short questionnaire.
If you are interested in taking part or have any further questions then please email Vicky Green, Psychologist in Clinical Training (University of Leeds) at recoverystudy@virginmedia.com
for many years….. since I was five or six, I am now forty-eight- I have been suffering with a mental illness that is hard to label properly. I am happily married with children that support me through the ups and downs. There are moments of simple clarity and moments where I feel a stranger in my own head.
I would be happy to help you with your thesis, if I indeed fit the requirements.
This is simply a contact note. I do NOT have BPD but had the misfortune to have been married in the past to a person who does. I have hands on experience therefore. Also I am now retired but am medically trained and have have consultant level surgical experience. I have created a ‘mental model’ of the human brain that is based upon the evolution of our brains/minds in the past. Personally I think that this model although simplistic in many ways actually explains BPD and other personality disorders rather better than the current purely ‘descriptive’ ones. Very happy to chit-chat if that is of any help.

Hi,
I haven’t been diagnosed with BPD, because I decided not to take the test as I did not want it on my medical record. I’m pretty sure in my own mind I have it. I have a history of anxiety and depression and have spent a couple of months in a mental hospital following a break down which was precipitated by relationship break down at work (as are all my depressive periods). Following my last break down (where I resigned and left my partner and home) I decided to take action and signed up for a years private therapy course in Holland. I have just come back this week and start a temporary teaching post next week. I guess I’m not e\able to help because I don’t have a diagnosis, but I’m keen to follow what you do and help in any way I can.
Good luck,
Janice
Thanks Janice. I will pass on your offer of help. Ann (website editor)
