Ty Catrin Implements An Adaptive Process Treatment Model

Ty Catrin has recently adopted and implemented an Adaptive Process Treatment model (Livesley, 2003) which involves assisting patients to move through a process of increasing adaptation to their own thoughts and feelings.
The model focuses on a number of key principles:

    1. Treatment must be structured within a clear process in order to ensure that the most appropriate interventions are delivered, relevant to each phase of the individual’s recovery.
    2. As well as diagnosis, treatment must be based on individual clinical formulation.
    3. Treatment must be evidenced based.
    4. Treatment should not be restricted to individual therapy.

Treatment is delivered in, and outcomes measured against, the adaptive phases (broadly aligned with the Stages of Therapeutic Change) and is relevant to clinical presentation.
Treatment and interventions are also provided through a fully integrated clinical approach, based on the principles of Structured Professional Judgement.
Ty Catrin (http://www.pastoralcymru.com/default.aspx) is an adult inpatient centre of excellence in personality disorders operating from a new state-of-the-art purpose-built facility. A pioneering service for Wales, Ty Catrin is located on the outskirts of Cardiff in South Wales and is set in attractive surroundings right in the heart of the community of Ely.
The Centre is for men and women aged 18 – 65 whose primary problem is longstanding difficulty with social situations and maintaining interpersonal relationships, often extending back into childhood. Ty Catrin is interested in helping people with a primary personality disorder which is distressing, personally harmful and hurtful to others and/or interfering with social functioning.
