Personality Disorder – Everybody’s Business: together changing our approach
In the past, we thought that problems associated with Personality Disorder were untreatable. However, evidence from the Department of Health Personality Disorder Programme is changing all that. But how do we apply the learning from best practice and recent guidance to ensure that people with Personality Disorder are treated by skilled and specialist staff working together across agencies?
The Department of Health, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and the National Offender Management Service, Ministry of Justice are holding a series of joint workshops to disseminate and discuss a number of exciting new developments in relation to Personality Disorder.
Did you know?
- Personality Disorder is a common condition and is often the root cause of social exclusion, educational failure, drug and alcohol abuse, anti-social behaviour and a range of other mental health problems and affects 4% of the population.
- Research suggests that Personality Disorder accounts for 24% of all GP consultations, up to 67% of psychiatric inpatient admissions, up to 77% of suicides and is present in over 50% of the prison population. People with Personality Disorder often suffer lives of rejection, anguish and alienation. The effects on society are pervasive, chaotic and expensive and cross many organisations, services and systems.
